Antique Chinese Export Lacquered Brise Fan Circa 1820Antique Chinese Export Lacquered Brise Fan Circa 1820
A superb Chinese export lacquered brise fan dating from the 1st quarter of the 19th century, circa 1820. The fan is bamboo, lacquered in black and decorated in gold. The sticks are very thin on this one, the width at the rivet is only 5/8". Usually these are 3/4" to 1" wide. The lacquer is very fine and is in pretty good condition, still very shiny in most spots. The gold is also in pretty good condition, the wear on the gold is where the red is showing through, mostly down at the gorge and on the guardsticks. The guardstick is 8" long. One of the sticks is split from the top down to the ribbon. It is stable and should be fine if handled with care. The fan has been re-ribboned recently so should last another 200 years or so. The ribbon is a very dark brown color, almost black. Guaranteed to be as described.
