Antique Hand Painted Ladies Fan late 1800's Carved Wooden Sticks Guards
An exquisite antique hand painted ladies fan from late 1800's
The sticks are light colored wood and have little engraved flowers with gold and the outside guards of the fan are engraved with matching tiny flowers.  This is a large fan, the guard sticks are 13 1/2" long. The fan itself is in fair condition.  The fan is made of paper gold lace and paper. I believe the paper might be rice paper. The hand painted design is of delicate white flowers and gold/tan leaves. There are a couple of sticks missing.   Some of the lace is ripped and not glued to the outside edge.   Somebody used scotch tape to mend this!!!  So sad.
The quality of the painting is exquisite.  The elaborate sticks and guards are also painted with gold.  There is also gold paint along the end of the entire fan. Please see pictures.
The end of the fan is held together by what I think is a brass round ring.
I sold another fan from this same estate several months ago that was from Tiffany's at Union Square with it's original box Tiffany & Co. Union Square store was their retail location from 1870-1906.  Thus from my other research I believe this fan is also from the late 1800's. I also believe that it is French.
This fan is from the Kimball estate in Melrose, Massachusetts.
