Description
Vintage original 11x14 in. U.S. lobby card, fine+ condition. The silent film melodrama
POPPY
, which was based upon the famous play by Ben Teal and John P. Ritter, was released in 1917 by Selznick Pictures (Lewis J. Selznick Enterprises) and
directed by Clarence Brown
and stars Silent Era superstar
Norma Talmadge
in the title role of Poppy Destinn, a mistreated orphan.
The image features a long shot of Poppy (left), wearing a dark orange dress and hat, who is now a successful novelist, enjoying a relaxing afternoon tea with a group of other well-to-do people. This particular card from the set features a multitude of beautiful pastel colors and the balanced composition depicting the horizontal striped awning at the top of the image and the two large urns with flowers on either side of the lower portion of the image adds to the visual interest. This lobby card is unrestored in fine+ condition with a tiny nick on the top border near the right corner, a slightly rounded top right and bottom left corner and a very light 1 in. vertical crease in the bottom left corner within the border only. The colors are extremely fresh and vibrant and the rich color tinting used in the lobby cards from this film is truly striking.
